In this series of articles I share with you tips that will help you win more matches and have more fun under these conditions. In last week’s article, I gave you some general tips on how to attack. Today I share with you some more.
Are you a power player? Forget the smash. Why? First of all, the ball is tough to handle. More often than not, when trying to hit the ball hard, you will make an unforced error. Second, even if you hit the ball exactly as you wanted, your opponents will likely be in time to start a counter attack. The ball is heavy; it will not fly high back to your own side of the court. Instead you may want to finish your rallies with your volleys or snake smash.
Hold your racket tight
According to the rules of Padel, a padel ball weights anywhere between 56 and 59.4 grams. That does not sound like much. However, consider that the ball is traveling in your direction at high speed. Your racket will hit it in the opposite direction. On top of that, the ball is carrying the weight of some water. I am no Professor in physics, but I dare to say that when you hit that ball, it will feel heavy, or very heavy. Thus, my advice is “hold your racket firm”. Tens your arm, forearm, wrist and grip right at the moment when your racket contacts the ball. If you don’t, the force of the incoming ball will bend your wrist and the ball will likely hit the net.
Not all brands produce the same type of padel balls. Some balls tend to absorb more water than others. I advise you to test several brands of padel balls. Some are more suitable to play under “wet” conditions than others.
